Sights and Happenings in Newcastle, England

With a 2007 population of 271,000, Newcastle is located in northeast England on the north bank of the River Tyne. Newcastle was named for the 1080 castle (still existing) that was built by the son of William the Conqueror, Robert II, and has come through many changes over the centuries. Emerging as a center for wool trade and coal exports, it evolved into one of the world's largest shipbuilding and repairing centers by the 16th century. These industries have now largely disappeared, and Newcastle is now known more for its business and culture.

Newcastle is a city of beautiful bridges, with the 1928 semicircular iron Tyne Bridge an icon of the city. Another fine bridge is the 1849 High Level Bridge designed by Robert Stevenson. The award-winning Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a modern tilt bridge designed for pedestrians and bicycles.

The center of the city is in the neoclassical style which was originally built in the 1830s and was recently refurbished. There are also many wonderful parks and open spaces in Newcastle, as it is quite a green city. The Town Moor is a particularly huge and a popular spot, as it goes right up to the home of the Newcastle United Football Club, the mighty St. James Park. Some other buildings of note include St. Nicholas Cathedral which dates from the 14th century and features an unusual lantern spire, and the magnificent Catholic Cathedral Church of St. Mary, built in 1844.

There are many sites to see and places to enjoy such as the quayside area, which is a cultural mix featuring bars and nightclubs coexisting with modern arts, music and many different cultural experiences. Newcastle also has a great Chinatown which features its own Chinese arch. Newcastle hosts the traveling Hoppings funfair which occurs in the last week of June and is said to be the largest in Europe.

Alyssa has been an online writer and publisher since 2001. Spam Filters: 5 Ways to Know Youâre Sending Spam
Spam is a problem that faces most people with email addresses today. It is an even bigger problem for the internet business community that is genuinely trying to distinguish itself from being called spammers. The problem lies in the simplicity of the medium and the temptation to reach the widest audience in as little time and cost as possible. Most spammers use some dubious means to acquire email addresses to mail to and this is the root of the problem. No customer is asked whether he or she wants to receive a mail before a mail is sent. This may sound harmless since there is always a delete button; however, the problem is that the number of mails that some individuals can get in the space of a day is enough to clog someone's inbox and the cost of bandwidth to ISPs and corporations is intolerable. It is for this reason that spam filters were created. These are software that have been created to identify spam mail and over the years they have evolved to using complicated mathematics to find patterns in suspect mails and then move them into a spam folder.

But the big question is, how do you know if the mailer that you are creating is spam or not? This judgment will be made in any case by a spam filter somewhere so it makes sense to use the benchmarks of spam filters. Spam is categorized by these filters using a mathematical function called probability. What it comes down to is how many times you use a phrase of hard sell and sales spiel and also how many times you use a spamming word. Some words, if repeated more than a few times will be picked up. These words include the name of the product, the brand name of the product, price, offers, discounts, etc.

Are you trying to mask your sales spiel by using special characters? This is a common trick that was used by many marketers selling Viagra. This is a useless technique and most filters can recognize these combinations.

The most fundamental way to know if you are sending spam is if you are sending an unsolicited mail. Always get a user's opt-in before you send mails.

Are you targeting the right people? Spammers are quite undiscerning and will mail everybody who has an email address.

The final way to know if you are sending spam is whether that was your objective in the first place. Spam filters will weed out spam mail and any mail that contains sales spiel but the distinction of whether you are a spammer or not lies in your own corporate objectives. This self awareness is going to be crucial in the years to come because of the dwindling amount of spam traffic. The tides started changing at the start of this year and with the increasing intelligence of filters, hopefully, spam will end up being a thing of the past.

Picasso - Father of Modern Art
Modern art, incorporates canvas art, sculpture, print, and all the other new forms of twentieth century art. Scholars and historians rarely agree, as to the exact point when modern art began. Therefore, the term generally refers to all art, produced in America and Europe, during the nineteen hundreds. In addition to a hand full of other countries, which were primarily influenced by the West. This was a time when Artists were introducing new materials, new techniques and new concepts. It was the intention of those Artists to break free from the restraints of the 'establishment', and redefine the boundaries of art. Without doubt, one of the most important and innovative 'inventions' of twentieth century art was Cubism, and the concepts of abstraction. Pablo Picasso is considered to be, probably, the most important artist of the twentieth century. His work was highly influential, and he is regarded as the creator of Cubism.

Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, mainland Spain. Pablo Picasso was a child prodigy, by the age of fourteen his technical skill was incredible. In 1895, his father became an art teacher at the Academy of Fine Art in La Coruña. Picasso was entered into the advanced classes quickly. He completed the entrance exam, which took most at least a month, in one day. Two years later, he began to study at the Madrid Academy. Picasso left soon after, dissatisfied, and returned home. Between 1900 and 1904, Picasso shifted between Paris and La Coruña. After four years of moving back and forth, Picasso finally made his home in Paris. This would be where he would live and work for most of his life.

From 1904, Picasso encountered many different art forms, showing great interest in the style of Henri Toulouse and African Art. Since his first visit to Paris, Picasso loved to paint the Parisian nightlife and café scenes, which generally, included a menagerie of circus performers and social outcasts. Some feel that Picasso was displaying empathy with the entertainers and outcasts he portrayed, like the Clown. The Clown is recognized inside the Big Ring, yet falls into obscurity, the second he removes his Clown face. Society pays the Clown to be entertained. Nobody is particularly interested in his real face, or feelings. Before Artists broke free of those Artistic restrictions, which had previously bound them, there was little difference between the Clown, and the Artist.

Towards the end of 1905, Picasso's work passed through many rapid changes in style. There was a notable withdraw from emotional content. The melancholy thoughts of the outcast, was replaced by reason. Picasso began to study early century sculpture from the Iberian peninsula. His fascination with Iberian sculpture reflected his increased interest in simplified, geometric forms. Picasso's had a preference for experimentation. He also had a keen interest in Art, which lay outside the realms of the establishment. By 1907 he had produced one of the most revolutionary oil paintings of the twentieth century; Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. The influence of both his native Iberian sculpture, and African Art is paramount in this work. The painting is greatly simplified, with oval forms, the faces and figures of this painting are incongruent. This piece was extremely adventurous for 1907.

The incongruities of Les Demoiselles d'Avignon proved too much for many of Picasso's contemporaries. Matisse is even believed to have accused Picasso of ridiculing the new, modern art movement. Curiously, today, many art historians and scholars regard this piece as the beginning of Cubism. The year of 1907 is also known to many as Picasso's African period. At first, Picasso rebuked the analogy of his work with African Art. However, later, he agreed that African Art had been greatly influential upon him, and his work. While some scholars believe that African Art was the primary catalyst for this rapid and drastic change in form and style, others believe it was Cézanne who provided this catalyst.

From 1907, until around 1917, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque developed and experimented with their new art concept, dubbed by the critics as Cubism. Most art historians and scholars will usually split that development into two dynamic stages. The first stage is referred to as Analytical Cubism. This describes the method of dissecting three dimensional forms, depicting them as multiple geometric planes. Synthetic Cubism sought to achieve the opposite. Instead of dissecting the form, they would create it using geometric planes. Picasso worked much, throughout his life, with the human figure and still life. Even today, we continue to analyze and enjoy his work. Without doubt, he was one of the most influential and innovative artists, of twentieth century modern art.

Hip Hop Craze

Have you ever noticed the kid in the mall wearing a chain and cross gleaming with what looks like diamond jewelry? They arenâ™t diamonds, of course and they may not be kids. In todayâ™s Hip Hop age we are facing an explosion of interest in these âœfakeâ diamonds better known as cubic zirconia. Hip Hop fans of all ages are imitating their rap idols in their adornment of the most flamboyant types of jewelry accessories. A whole new genre of style and design has been established as a result with its own language and boundaries. The prolific rise of the rap industry as a mainstay in our cultural landscape is undeniable. People of all races, economic backgrounds and various regions of the world have been affected. Hip Hop has transcended its roots in the underground and has long since crossed over into the mainstream. This phenomenon has created various cottage industries specializing in all things Hip Hop. Wearing a chain or donning some shiny earrings symbolizes the promotion of the Hip Hop lifestyle. It bellows out the success of an individual in the ability to procure these expensive items. Diamonds and gold have become the ornaments of Hip Hop, the outwardly physical manifestation of wealth. Many of us have seen music videos starring rappers such as Nelly, 50 cent and Eminem. They are usually equipped with the finest women, the fastest cars and the most heavily diamond laced jewelry. This trend started early in Hip Hop as commercially successful rap legends such as LL Cool J sported thick gold chains drawing the attention of all Hip Hop fans across the world. Here was the beginning of the establishment of a cultural trend spanning from fashion to language. Have you heard of terms such as bling, grillz and iced out? You might know what some of these terms mean even if youâ™re not a rap fan. These are words used to describe the various states of diamond jewelry. Youâ™re diamond watch is definitely blinging(shining, glittering). If you ever win the lottery you might consider having diamonds attached to your teeth representing your grillz. Or you could buy a heavily iced out pendant to match your bling watch and your frosty grillz. And so on and so forth. Ok, so letâ™s go back to that kid in the mall with the chain. Heâ™s probably working at Burger King and wonâ™t be cashing any stocks soon that would allow him to purchase a pair of 1CT princess cut diamond earrings worth $5,000. Instead, he is going for the next best thing. The âœfakeâ diamond, otherwise know as cubic zirconia. Cubic Zirconia can be easily mistaken for a diamond. In fact, one factor in identifying a cubic zirconia stone is noting itâ™s brilliance. CZ stones are actually more brilliant, more symmetrical and exhibit more fire(the dispersion of white light into a rainbow of colors) than real diamonds. CZ forms naturally although the type used in jewelry is man made. Generally, the best CZ is produced in labs in Russia. So why are diamonds so much more valuable? The popularity of diamonds as a wearable gemstone increased in the 19th century as cutting and polishing practices improved. Diamonds had primarily been used industrially as they are able to cut through most materials until this time. Diamonds are the hardest gemstones known to many making them scratch resistant and easily polished. As a result of their legendary durability and the brilliance and fire they exhibit, diamonds have become the standard gemstone for the most important and valuable forms of jewelry, in particular, engagement rings. Regardless of the value of diamonds vs. CZ, economically there is no comparison. In order for those Hip Hop fans to achieve the look and feel of their idols they have turned invariably to cubic zirconia.

Buying A Plasma TV

Plasma TVs offer a much higher resolution and better picture quality than TVs of old, and can also be used as great computer monitors as well. Gamers especially like using a Plasma TV due to the fact that they can get greater graphic detail and clearer pictures which helps to enhance game play, making it more enjoyable.
Another advantage to owning a Plasma TV is that colors look better than on any other TV or monitor. Having high-end color creates a better picture, and makes TV seem more real, a good feature for movie buffs for sure.
Brighter colors and higher contrasts add to viewing pleasure, as well as the ability to watch TV and movies in wide screen.
Many people are better satisfied with Plasma TVs as they require much less space than the traditional TV sets. You no longer have to plan your furniture layout around where the TV is positioned, as the small size and wider screen makes it easy to see from almost any angle or distance in the room. No matter where you sit in your room, you should be able to clearly see TV, which is an added bonus to the Plasma TV.
Plasma TVs range in size from the standard twenty inch models, all the way up to fifty inches in width. Keep in mind however, the bigger the screen is, the higher the price is likely to be. Plasma TVâ™s work particularly well if you are planning to set up your own home theatre, couple it with a good surround sound system, and you have all the benefits of the theatre without all the extra people to annoy you.
Resolution also affects the price of your Plasma TV. The higher resolution, the sharper and clearer the picture, but the more of a dent it will put in your wallet. You will probably be better suited by purchasing a well known brand name Plasma TV, as you are likely to get better service from a reputable manufacturer. A good price is important for the obvious reason, but remember, sometimes you get what you pay for. If you buy from a vendor just because he is cheap you can be setting yourself up for problems right off the bat.
There are several resources available online to help with any questions you may have about purchasing a Plasma TV. It is a good idea to look into several different sources before making a final decision and handing over your hard earned cash.

A Home Inspection to Ensure the Safety of Your Electrical System
Chances are good that electronics have invaded your entire premises. For this reason, it's always a good idea to have a home inspection done to your home if it's been awhile since you moved in.

The task if not evident through overhead post lines it may actually be accomplished underground. Current advances have enabled the construction of electrical wiring systems underground. Most likely, these systems are the very ones providing electricity for your residence. This only marks the first step in a home inspection.

These lines connect to several outlets and receptacles around the house.

The electrical wiring spreads throughout the kitchen area to enable you to use a blender, toaster, or oven as you make a beautiful dinner for yourself or for your family or guests.

The system exists in your child's bedroom for lights, switches, and maybe even a radio. The truth is that wiring is behind every outlet and every socket in the house. That's why it isn't hard to imagine how having a home inspection could benefit you and your family.

In order to get to know what you could possibly be getting yourself into, it's important to lay down some basic rules and guidelines about this service. This is basically a visual examination conducted by either an individual or a team on your premises examining everything perceptible to the naked eye.

You should employ the services of a professional home inspector. The choice is yours so long as you make sure that the individuals you hire are fully qualified to conduct inspections. A home inspection is only as effective as those conducting it.

Therefore make sure that you either hire accredited personnel or associations. Electrical, mechanical, structural, and even industrial engineers might be well suited to the task of examination.

If you're employing the services of a group, varied specialties might lead to a more effective diagnosis of the problems and potential problems you might have in your house.

For example, a structural engineer might be quicker and keener on spotting issues regarding foundation and external component while an electrical engineer might be more attuned to handling appliances and electrical systems.

There are numerous systems involved in a home inspection especially if you hire the rights persons.

This leads us back to the prevalent system of the house. The electrical system when unchecked could lead to a number of health hazards. Ceiling fans and exhaust fans might actually be more of a harm and danger if improperly installed or unchecked regularly.
